Cultural Extravaganza at NCC a hit

…as police ranks put aside their stern crime-fighting mien for a while
Ranks of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) Wednesday evening put aside their stern crime-fighting mien for a while and entertained an appreciative National Cultural Centre (NCC) audience with an evening of music and song.

This other face of the force was pleasing indeed, and on hand to witness the happening were Prime Minister Samuel Hinds and Mrs. Hinds, Minister of Labour Manzoor Nadir, Minister of Agriculture Robert Persaud, Minister of Transport and Hydraulics Robeson Benn, Minister within the Ministry of Health Dr. Bheri Ramsaran, Chief of Staff of the Guyana Defence Force Commodore Gary Best and Director of Prisons Dale Erskine.

The evening featured police ranks in a competent programme of music, singing, dancing, poetry, dramatic skits, gymnastics and body-building displays put together by the Police Director of Music and Culture Assistant, Commissioner Cecil Bovell, DSM.
The Guyana Police Force Military Band, MS, along with the Police String Band, the Police Steel Orchestra, the Joint Services Choir and the Immigration Choir gave grand performances that kept patrons tapping their feet.
The audience was also thrilled with the body building display by Corporal 18203 Randolph Morgan who earned the Best Overall Powerlifter Title at the IPF/NAPF Caribbean Island Power Lifting Championships in March of this year, and Lance Corporal 17534 Karel Mars who was recently adjudged the Best Overall Powerlifter at the Guyana Amateur Power lifting Federation National Power lifting Championships.

Impressive support performances were offered by the Indian Dance Company, the National School of Dance, the Felix Austin Police College Gymnasts, and popular entertainers Henry Rodney and Linden ‘Jumbie’ Jones.

The Police Force “Cultural Extravaganza” was intended to showcase the diverse talent available among members of the organization, while at the same time providing wholesome family entertainment with the support of members of the public.
