Berbice and Rest Team clash from today

GCB 4-Team four-day …
DEFENDING champions Cellink Berbice will open their quest to retain their Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) four-day four-team title from today, when they face a Rest Team at the Blairmont Community Centre ground.

National middle order batsman Royston Crandon will lead Cellink Berbice unit in the match, since last year’s successful captain Assad Fudadin is unavailable due to West Indies ‘A’ commitments. National opening batsman Sewnarine Chattergoon will be Crandon’s deputy.
Added support especially in the batting department will come from Narsingh Deonarine who became the first man to top 1 000 runs in a West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) tournament last year.
When one adds the temperamental opener in Richard Ramdeen, Chattergoon, Devon Clements, Ranga Latchana, Eugene La Fleur and the Crandon siblings in skipper Royston and his elder brother Esaun, certainly the Rest Team’s work is cut out for them.
Even though they are without the services of national leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo who is on West Indies ‘A’ team duties, Berbice still possesses a strong bowling attack that is being led by Esaun Crandon and national fast bowler Keon Joseph, with the spinners in Deonarine, Royston Crandon, La Fleur, Steven Latcha and national Under-15 skipper Shawn Perreira, offering amicable support.
The Rest Team, made up of players who did not find favour with their County’s selection panel, should not be written off as they came from behind to finish second to Berbice last year, thanks to the inspirational leadership of wicketkeeper Derwin Christian.
Even though they don’t have Christian, since he has been selected to represent Demerara, they do have the services of 20-year-old Jonathan Foo, along with Wasim Haslim, Dion Ferrier, Seon Hetmyer, Shemroy Barrington and Gajanand Singh.
Their bowling will be led by Kellon Carmichael, who can also contribute with the bat, Keyron Fraser, Seon Daniels, Ferrier along with Krisendat Ramoo and Raj Nanan. This fixture promises to be a very exciting and enthralling one indeed.
The action gets under way at 09:30 h and the teams for the encounter will be chosen from
Cellink Berbice: Royston Crandon, Sewnarine Chattergoon, Richard Ramdeen, Maxie De Jonge, Narsingh Deonarine, Eugene La Fleur, Devon Clements, Ranga Latchana, Anthony Bramble, Steven Latcha, Esaun Crandon, Keon Joseph and Shawn Perreira. The Manager – David Black and Coach – Adrian Amsterdam.
