Caribbean Fury 2 Controversy mars night of fistic fury

A CONTROVERSIAL decision handed out in the final bout of the Holland Entertainment Promotions (HEP) organised Caribbean Fury 2 at the Princess Hotel last Saturday night, marred a wonderful night of boxing for the hundreds who thronged the venue, including his Excellency President Bharrat Jagdeo.
Guyana’s Leon ‘Hurry Up’ Moore who co promoted the card with Carwyn Holland’s HEP and Lions Promotions out of USA, faced Venezuela’s Breilor Teran in a 10 round matchup, which many boxing fans gathered at the venue thought the Venezuelan won convincingly.
Despite recording three knockdowns with the final one occurring a mere 15 seconds before the final bell over Moore, the 25 year old Teran whose ring record dropped to 12-9-1 with four of his victories coming via the knockout route, suffered a majority decision loss to the Guyanese who improved to 27-2 with 22 Knockouts.

Other fights on the card saw Women’s International Boxing Association (WIBA) bantamweight champion Shaundell Alfred turning back the threats of Colombia’s Olga Julio, with a unanimous decision victory in their six rounds matchup.
Alfred took her record to 13-5 with the win while Julio who had promised to defeat her Guyanese counterpart and at the same time inflict pain, dropped to 8-9-1.
Rawle Frank, Clive Atwell, Gwendolyn O’ Neil and Joel Mc Rae all recorded points victory over Denny Dalton, Kurt Bess, Errol Trotman, Pamela London and James Walcott respectively.
