GUYANA’s senior national footballers have qualified for the finals of the Digicel Caribbean Cup set for Martinique at the end of the month.
Guyana’s qualification was aided by a 4-0 hammering by Trinidad and Tobago over Haiti. In the final Group F game played at the Mani Ramjohn Stadium, T&T topped the Group with the maximum nine points in their three matches, while Guyana squeezed into the finals with a better goal difference than Haiti.
Both sides ended with a win, a draw and a loss. But Guyana who finished with three goals for and two against were superior to Haiti, who conceded five goals, while scoring three in their three outings. Guyana joins other qualifiers Grenada, Guadeloupe, T&T, Cup holders Jamaica and host Martinique.
Meanwhile, the final two places for the eight-team finals will be decided this coming week from among Cuba, Suriname, Dominica and host Antigua and Barbuda.
