Diwali 2010 in Alexander Village a peaceful event

as promised by Minister Rohee
Home Affairs Minister Clement Rohee had promised residents of Alexander Village that the police would be providing security once more this year, as they did in 2009, to ensure that the villagers enjoy a peaceful Diwali and that intrusive elements bent on mischief would not be allowed to disrupt the peace and tranquility of the village.
Chronicle visited the village yesterday, just as the villagers were decorating their mandir, homes and yards with diyas, and everyone expressed satisfaction that the Minister had kept his word.  They said that the police had been deployed since midday in the village and had succeeded in keeping out disruptive elements from their community.

Many persons were seen strolling peacefully through the village, pausing to look at the beautifully decorated homes and mandir.
According to Godfrey Chin, a Roman Catholic, the annual motorcade is a phenomenal undertaking that has great promise and possibilities for tourism in Guyana.  He said that this festival could motivate entire communities and involve youths in joint celebratory activities, similar to the January First Rose Bowl Parade in Pasadena, USA.
