Sophia man remanded in Berbice on burglary charge

EIGHTEEN-YEAR-OLD Jomo Archer, of Lot 65 Sophia, Greater Georgetown, appeared before Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo at New Amsterdam Court yesterday, charged with break and enter and larceny. The indictable charge said the burglary was committed, on October 27, at the home of Vanessa Joseph, Cumberland, Canje, also in Berbice.
Police Corporal Roberto Figueira, prosecuting, said the virtual complainant is a school teacher who returned to her house and discovered a number of things missing, including a 32-inch ‘Plasma’ television, a ‘Sony’ DVD player, bottles of liquor and jewellery, valued a total of $705,600.
The Prosecutor said Police from Reliance Station, in Canje, as well, arrested the defendant in an abandoned house, with the television and some more of the booty.
Archer was refused bail and remanded to prison until November 24, when he is expected to appear at Reliance Court.
