National footballers to confront Guatemala in the US

…Ladies play Mexico tomorrow
THE Guyana senior footballers will clash with Central American side Guatemala in Atlanta, Georgia on November 17th mainly as a fund-raiser for the financially strapped Guyana Football Federation (GFF). According to General Manager for all National teams, Aubrey Hutson the efforts by the overseas-based Guyanese is a most commendable one and should be a plug for the development of the sport.

“  Garth Nelson and Colin Baker, the main principals behind the game, are introducing something special for Guyana’s football and once this could be arranged on a regular basis the sport stands to benefit. Of course the composition of the side will be determined by the acquisition of the necessary US visa for the players”.
“The main objective behind the game, which will be a good warm up game for the national team, is to raise much needed hard currency US funds for the Federation, as you know we are in need of lots of money to sustain the programs for the various national teams ” Hutson informed.
The senior footballers are currently preparing for thesecond round of the Digicel Caribbean Cup which kicks off in T&T next Tuesday when they come up against former Cup holders Haiti at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.
The Guyanese will then take on T&T two days later before their final game against St Vincent & The Grenadines on the 6th. The two top teams of the four-team group will advance to the Finals slated for November 26th to December 5th in Martinique.
Meanwhile the national female ballers arrived in Mexico to contest the 8th CONCACAF Ladies Gold Cup Tournament. The Guyanese will open their campaign against the host tomorrow. The eight-team tournament is also serving as the CONCACAF Women’s World Cup Qualifying competition, with the top two finishers gaining automatic qualification to Germany next year, while the 3rd placed side will engage Europe’s 5th placed team in a play-off for a 3rd berth.
