Poultry producers confirm no shortage of eggs, chicken

THE Poultry Producers Association (PPA) has assured the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, ahead of the Christmas season, that there is no shortage of eggs and chicken on the local market. The Minister, Mr. Manniram Prashad yesterday said, at a recent meeting with PPA members, the assurance was given that there is a sufficient quantity of those commodities even for the festive period.
However, if there is not enough to supply the local market, the Ministry will grant import licences to stakeholders and now is the time for that, he said.
Prashad said the PPA has been cooperating with the Ministry and, in the past, there has been no reason to doubt its word.
But the definite situation will be confirmed when they meet, again, shortly and if necessary, a statement will be issued.
Eggs are now being sold at three for $100 and the price of chicken has dropped significantly, Prashad observed.
