Incinerator at New Amsterdam hospital now operationalTHE New Amsterdam hospital incinerator is fully operational following intervention of the Construction battalions [Seabees] of the United States Navy. The servicemen are attached to ‘USS Iwo Jima and Continuing Promise’ mission which is deployed to Guyana for a ten day period.

The engagement supports the U.S. Southern Command goals of ensuring greater security, enhancing regional stability and strengthening relationships among regional partners.
Meanwhile, after being inoperable for many years, black smoke billowed through its chimneys shortly before mid-day yesterday, signaling to officials that the health care waste disposal system is operational.
The Incinerator at the New Amsterdam Hospital Seabees Second Class engineer, Daurell Winchester, told local media operatives that the electrical parts within the incinerator were malfunctioning and the motor needed to be rewired.
However, with parts which were accessed easily from the United States, the works was completed within two days.
Winchester, who was ably assisted by Petty Officer Naphaphone Ratsavong, Pennsylvanian contractor Harry Stroud, and local facility supervisor Ervin Rose, said six locals will be trained to maintain the facility. (Jeune Bailey Vankeric)
