THE country’s road fatalities increased by two more with the deaths yesterday of Doodnauth Sukraj, 40, of 171 Area 7, First Field Cummings Lodge, and Nigel Wright, 33, of 14 Company Road, Buxton, both villages on the East Coast of Demerara.
Police reported that the men died at 00:55hrs and 07:15hrs, respectively. Sukraj, a Police release noted, died at the Georgetown Public Hospital after being involved in an accident about 21:40 hrs on Sunday on the Cummings Lodge Railway Embankment Road.
The deceased was riding a motor cycle west along the southern carriageway and was struck down by a speeding motor car which had overtaken several vehicles before hitting Sukraj.
The driver then fled the scene but was later arrested and taken into police custody.
Wright, meanwhile, succumbed to injuries he sustained when he was hit by motor car driven by Troy Daniels at around 23:35hrs on Sunday on Vlissengen Road in the city.
The vehicle was proceeding north along the western carriageway when Wright came out of a beer garden and attempted to cross the road in an eastern direction.
Daniels is presently in custody assisting with investigations., the release added.
