Police charge three with $7.5M Port Kaituma robbery

POLICE have charged three men with the $7.5M armed robbery committed at Port Kaituma, North West District, last Friday. Kevin Wong, of Lot 126 Timehri Public Road, Faraz Mohamadeen, of Lot 132 and Neil Singh of Lot 9, both at Plantation Pearl, all on East Bank Demerara, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday.
The joint indictable charge against them said they robbed Jacquelyn James, at gunpoint, of $6M cash and five ounces of raw gold valued $1.5M.
Wong faced other charges, to which he pleaded not guilty, that alleged he had a .32 pistol and four live matching rounds without licences for them and wounded Police Corporal Emrald Winter, with intent to maim, disfigure and cause him grievous bodily harm, also on October 15 at Port Kaituma.
Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, said the trio entered the home of the virtual complainant with Wong brandishing the gun and an alarm was raised.
The Prosecutor said, when Police arrived on the scene, the robbers attempted to escape and Wong shot and wounded Winter but was apprehended.
The accused have been remanded to prison until November 2.
