Arjune hits 156 for GNIC against Police
FORMER National opening batsman Krishna Arjune struck the lone century on the first day, when action in the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) organised Heroes Cup sponsored first division two-day competition continued yesterday with three matches.
Playing for the Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) in their matchup against the Police Sports Club (PSC), Arjune struck 156 which was decorated with 13 fours and five sixes and along with Shawn De Souza’s 89 (8×4, 3×6) and David Dick 49, guided GNIC to 319-6 declared.
Jason Heyliger was the pick of the PSC bowlers with 3-62, following which he returned with the bat to stroke an unbeaten 16 as PSC ended the day on 47-2, with Shameer Fazal being the other batsman unbeaten with Heyliger on 4.
At the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) ground, Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) were 55 runs away from first innings points in their fixture against Everest Cricket Club (ECC), thanks to an unbeaten 55 (6×4, 2×6) from Dion Ferrier.
ECC won the toss and were bowled out for 165 from 69.1 overs, even though Ahbilash Dookie who struck Steven Sankar (2-60) for one of his three sixes which along with his four fours contributed to his 71, while Troy Gonsalves 24 (1×4, 1×6) and Raymond Singh 21 (2×4, 1×6) offered him support.
Quason Nedd, Ferrier, Sankar and Vishal Narayan all took two wickets each for 14, 20, 27 and 60 runs respectively for MSC who reached 106-4 at the close, with Kwame Crosse who struck five fours in his 32 offering support to Ferrier, with the two adding 74 for the fourth wicket while Dookie has so far taken 2-24 for ECC.
At the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) ground, the home team allowed GDF who were 106-4 at lunch to pile up a massive 325-9 declared, to which they replied with 60-2 at the close.
Jeremiah Harris opened his shoulders to hit 13 fours and one six in his unbeaten 77 for GDF, receiving support from Dillon Heyliger 52 (5×4; 2×6), Trevon Garraway 44 (5×4), Shemroy Barrington 32 (8×4) and Terry Fraser 31 (2×4; 2×6).
West Indies Under-19 opener Trevon Griffith took 4-65 and Dennis ‘Bitterman’ Squires 2-59 for DCC who lost Cowen Ismond 27 (5×4) and Griffith 21 (2×6, 2×4) in their reply, while Dennis Legay and Carl Campbell has so far taken a wicket each for GDF.
Action in all three matches will conclude today, with play set to commence at 09:30h.
