JOSEPH Barker (no address given) was yesterday remanded to prison on a larceny from the person charge after the Police objected to bail for him.
Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey, who successfully objected to the grant, told Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry it is likely that the defendant might interfere with witnesses and flea the jurisdiction.
Barker pleaded not guilty to having, on October 7, stolen a gold chain, valued $267,000, from Latesha Mansfield.
The Prosecutor said the defendant asked the virtual complainant to borrow her phone for call and, when she reached into her pocket for the instrument, Barker grabbed the jewel off her neck and escaped but was arrested later.
