Hindus observe Navatra

HINDUISM covers every endeavour of life and provides appropriate mantras and sholakas which are chanted during its many festivals.
Navratra occurs twice of every calendar year in the spring and autumn.
Pandit Reepu Daman Persaud in an extensive presentation on the subject defines Navratra as a time when the feminine aspects of God is worshipped in the form of Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati.  On the three first days, Durga is adored for the removal of all negative tendencies.  Lakshmi for the acquisition of material wealth and the final three days devotees, who would have been exposed to this great spiritual discipline which includes fasting, enters the temple of knowledge and adores Saraswati Mata.
Navratra in the early years, were confined to what is called gaaw puja, but in recent years Navratra had grown into a mammoth celebration.  Pandit Persaud asserted Navratra celebrates the victory of the universal mother over the demon and strengthens the spiritual alertness of devotees.  The celebration concludes on Vijai Dashmi known as the day of victory.  Navratra has a yogic content; the pursuit of which reawakens our kundalili shakti or spiritual power.
A service was held at the Rama Krishna Mandir, Barr Street, Kitty to mark the beginning of the observance of Navatra and continues every night at 18:30 hours except on Thursday when service would be held at Campbellville Shri Krishna Mandir at 18:30 hours.
