THE Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) has selected a strong 13 member squad to play for its “A” team who will face Essequibo’s Under-23 tomorrow at the Cumberland Ground in Canje for the Roy Fredericks/Ivan Madray Memorial Trophy.
The Ancient County ‘A’ team will be led by former national Under-19 skipper Eugene La Fleur coached by Winston Smith and managed by assistant treasurer of the BCB Romesh Munna.
The full squad reads: Farouk Hussain, Eon Hooper, Arthley Bailey, Harrinarine Chattergoon, Ranga Lachigadoo Latchana, Seon Hetmyer, Eugene La Fleur, Jason Sinclair, Dominic Rickie, Steven Latcha, Yogindra Harrinarine, Troy Mathieson and Keyron Fraser.
Chairman of the BCB’s Special Events Committee Hilbert Foster stated that the Board was pushing ahead with the ‘A’ team’s programme to expose as much players as possible to a high standard of the game so that they can be ready to play if selected to the Berbice senior team.
They recently completed a two match series against Demerara and will also play a return match versus Essequibo in that county in the not too distant future.
According to Foster, the BCB will be honouring the late Ivan Madray and Roy Fredericks under its Tribute to Heroes Programme by naming the match trophy in their memory.
Both Madray and Fredericks are former West Indies Test cricketers and are legends in the ancient county.
The match bowls off at 09:30 h and the umpires are Clement Brusche and Mahendra Singh.
