Following the brutal murder of 16-year-old Neesa Lalita Gopaul, whose headless corpse was found submerged in a creek near the Emerald Tower Resort on Saturday by persons who went to the area to swim, Police Crime Chief Seelall Persaud said the file is with the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice. He made the disclosure yesterday when asked if there is enough evidence to make a conviction following the arrest of three persons.
Three persons, including the mother and stepfather are in police custody following the brutal murder of Gopaul of 13 A Lenora Public Road, West Coast Demerara.
Mr. Persaud yesterday confirmed that the teenager’s head is still missing.
A post mortem examination is scheduled for today and relatives said that the body will be at her grandmother’s residence at 15 Anna Catherina Seaview, West Coast Demerara, from 13:00 hrs, then she will be buried.Sleuths at the scene found a passport in the name of Neesa Lalita Gopaul, together with other documents, as they removed the body from a suitcase which was tied with rope and anchored by a piece of iron in the Madewini Creek.
Following the discovery of the teen’s headless corpse, relatives said that she suffered sexual, physical and mental abuse at the hands of her stepfather, who often drugged her.
They said the man moved into the family home two weeks after Gopaul’s father died, and began living with her mother and five-year-old sister.
Gopaul, a former Queen’s College student was also forced to quit school when her father died and her academic performance declined.
The teen had confided in relatives of the happenings at her home and had even begged them to take her and her younger sibling in.
Gopaul and her sister were the sole beneficiaries of the property left by her late father, and she wanted the stepfather out of the house.
She often voiced her disapproval about the union between her mother and the man.
