– Buxtonians give green light to plan
Following an agreement by majority vote in Buxton recently, residents of the East Coast Demerara village, including members of the Tipperary Hall Committee met President Bharrat Jagdeo last Friday to confirm a new design for the Tipperary Hall building.
Several of the villagers and representatives of various organizations in the community met the Head of State at the Office at the President where an artistic impression of the building was unveiled.

The venue was also available to similar events organised by residents of communities outside of Buxton.
Located south on the Church of God road in Buxton, the hall was once the headquarters of the Buxton/Friendship Burial Society.
Over the years, the hall fell into disuse because of deterioration.
Overhaul of the facility was among the many priorities that emanated from a needs analysis of the village after President Bharrat Jagdeo’s historic visit and interaction with residents on August 18 last.
The proposed new concrete two- storeyed facility has the same size as the old building, but would include a library, an office, classrooms for computer training, a lavatory block and auditorium with stage, changing room and a bar.

Vice President of the Tipperary Hall Management Committee Victor Graham told the Government Information Agency (GINA) how elated residents were about the progress made in the plans to construct the facility, noting the timeliness of Government’s intervention.
The committee is made up of five members of the village and one each from the Government and the Neighburhood Democratic Council .
Presidential Adviser of Community Development Odinga Lumumba, who joined President Bharrat Jagdeo in the meeting, told GINA that the project is long overdue and he commended the timeliness of the pending construction.

A new Tipperary Hall is one of several promises delivered by Government to residents of the village.
In early September, a bank of computers and a quantity of instruments for a steel band were handed over to representatives from different organisations in the village. The groups included representatives from the churches, Buxton Youth Developers, and the Toucan II Multipurpose Club.
The Head of State had expressed admiration for the large number of volunteer groups in the community, noting that it is a good sign of interest lacking in many other communities on the East Coast of Demerara. (GINA)
