TT, Guyanese duck curry experts go for it at Montrose

The Trinidad Duck Curry Contingent was determined to give local duck curry experts a run for their money at the 10th Annual Duck Curry Competition at Montrose, Starlite Drive Cinema East Coast, yesterday. The rivalry was friendly but strong as demonstrated by four-time champion Trinidad “Duck Soldier” Sham Basdeo, who said that he came to win.
The persons who competed are all ex-champions, including 2009 National champion Jagdesh Bissessar, who also won in Trinidad and Suriname.
Following countrywide events in Enmore East Coast Demerara, Anna Regina Essequibo, and Port Mourant, the finals, which are to be held on November 28, will be an even more international affair, with competitors from the United States, Canada, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago competing against local experts for a grand prize of a million dollars.
Additional entertainment was provided by Anil Bheem and the Bheemers Band and St. Johns United Tassa Group of Trinidad. Caribbean Hotshots Band and King’s Tassa Group represented Guyana. A family affair, the event included kids’ games, face painting and art and craft.
The event offered $150 thousand in cash, plus trophies, cell phones and other prizes.
