Kabakaburi embarking on bamboo weaving project
AMERINDIANS at Kabakaburi, in Upper Pomeroon, have embarked on a project that will utilise bamboo trees growing in abundance in their community.
The Toshoa, Mrs. Lorna Williams said it is very important to create employment.
She said it entails bamboo weaving and classes to teach it will commence by month end, with applicants paying a $2,000 for a three months course.
Williams said the undertaking will be highlighted during Heritage Day celebration in the village on September 25.
Meantime, she announced that villages are extending the drive to provide food through agriculture and 100 acres are currently under cultivation with peanuts.
Williams said farmers are also expanding their cultivations with other crops, in response to the ‘Grow more food’ campaign.
