THE title of the Stabroek News story covering the PNC’s Friday 17th September press conference captioned ‘Jagdeo degrading office with verbal attacks –PNC’, reeks of the usual hypocrisy that we’ve become accustomed to from that political party.
The President’s office was already degraded long before Jagdeo set foot into it. It was degraded by three decades of fraudulently rigged elections, state sponsored murder of political opponents like Rodney, Darke, Teekah, chronic malnutrition plaguing a large section of the population, unemployment, state dependency by PNC supporters and the theft of in excess of $2B from the state’s coffers.
Any so-called abuse Jagdeo dishes out pales in comparison to the notoriety that previously infested the office when it was occupied by the PNC. Abuse to opponents of the then PNC-led administration often resulted in physical harm, death or imprisonment.
On another front, James McAllister and other members of ‘Team Alexander’ can testify to the way opponents of Robert Corbin are treated. Must I say more?
