Sham Khan cops DDL Topco Juices National Junior Qualifier

… Shariff and Khan share the senior category
SHAM Khan played brilliantly to capture the Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL) Topco Juices-sponsored Guyana Chess Federation (GCF) tournament which concluded last Sunday at the Keishar’s Sports Club.

Khan suffered two losses along the way to Raan Motilall and Rashad Hussain to finish on six points from eight games, while Motilall secured the second position and Suhai Feng took the third podium spot.
The other players who qualified to compete in the GCF’s National Junior Chess Championship are: Rashad Hussain, Ron Motilall, Carlos Petterson and Ryan McKay, with the final points standing reading: Sham Khan (6 points), Raan Motilall, Suhai Feng, Rashad Hussain and Ron Motilall (5½ each).
Carlos Petterson and Ryan McKay (5 points), Saeed Ali, Faraad Baksh and Khalid Gajraj (4½), Crystal Khan, Shane Yusuf and Daryll Calistro (4), Kana Khan, Aslam Hussain, Sherifa Ali and Videsh Shameer (3), Adam Ramnarayan (2½), Rajendra Jetoo (2) and Jason Barnwell and Ganesh Persaud (1).
Omar Shariff and Taffin Khan share the top honours in the senior category, as both players ended on eight points each and with the tie-breaker even for both players, with the final podium position going to David Khan.
The final points standing for the seniors is: Omar Shariff and Taffin Khan (8 each) (Berger tie-breaker 29.00 each), David Khan (7), Shiv Nandalall (6), Errol Tiwari (5), Glenford Corlette (3), Learie Webster and Alex Joseph (2).
The tournament was sponsored exclusively by DDL under their Topco Juices brand and their representative, Alexis Glasgow, was on hand to present the trophies and prizes to the respective winners.
