ACTING Regional Education Officer in Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam), Ms. Leslyn Edwards-Charles has announced that a Child Friendly School Classroom Competition is among the activities in progress to mark Education Month. In an interview with the Guyana Chronicle, she said a face-the-community meeting was hosted at Eighth of May Community High School yesterday and another is scheduled for September 20 at Cotton field Secondary School.
Charles said an impromptu speech contest, involving primary school children, also took place yesterday at the Learning Resource Centre, Department of Education.
Other events for the remainder of the month include a students’ symposium at the Huist T’Dieren Primary School on September 23 and a secondary level one on child friendly issues at Anna Regina Multilateral School on September 22.
An in-house seminar on parenting will be conducted on September 18 at the Learning Resource Centre and today will be a fun day within the cluster of schools.
Teachers in concert is scheduled for Eighth of May and Johanna Cecelia Community High Schools, also on Essequibo Coast, on September 30.
A parents’ parade and seminar will take place on September 25 at Cotton Field Secondary and the month will end on September 30, with a Regional Award Ceremony to honour teachers who gave long and dedicated service to the teaching profession.
The students with outstanding results from the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) and National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) examinations will also be awarded.
