Puran Brothers employee struck by hit-and-run driver

A 48-year-old employee of Puran Brothers, West Coast Demerara, is now in a serious condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH), after being involved in a ‘hit and run’ accident on the Windsor Forest Public Road Saturday night.
The victim, Niall James, of 69 Third Street, Windsor Forest, was rushed to the hospital in an unconscious condition, and suffering a broken right thigh, a fractured shoulder, bruises to the right arm and second degree burns to his abdomen inflicted by the exhaust on the minibus.
James was walking along the Windsor Forest Public Road when, around 19:00 hrs, he was struck from behind by a speeding minibus and was hurled into the air, landing heavily on the roadside. The driver sped away.
Public spirited citizens summoned his wife and they rushed him to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was stabilized and transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Meanwhile, the motorist who caused the accident is still on the run. Police are investigating.
