FORT MYERS, Florida, (CMC) – Gwendolyn O’Neil successfully defended her Women’s International Boxing Association heavyweight title against Crystal Davis on Saturday. The 41-year-old O’Neil from Guyana won a points decision in the 10-round contest to improve her overall fight record to 16 wins in 23 fights.
O’Neil easily handled the much younger and less experienced challenger Davis to convince the judges that she was worthy of holding on to the belt.
The 27-year-old Davis, who lives in Texas, has now suffered her third loss in seven fights, and was contesting her first fight outside of her home state.
The fight took place at the Skatium on the Night of the Champions card, which also featured Felix “Showtime” Camacho, the younger brother of Hector “Macho” Camacho, the former World Boxing Federation champion.
He found the road back to be a difficult one, and in an upset, Adrian Perez out-pointed “Showtime” in the six round contest.
Camacho has been inactive for over nine years, and with this loss, may be headed back into retirement.
