Medical team dispatched to areas flooded by high tide

In the wake of the flooding caused by recent high tides, the Regional Health Department for Region Three (Essequibo Islands/West Demerara) has dispatched a medical team to the affected areas.
Communities on the West Bank of Demerara to be visited include Vive-La-France, Vriesland, Patentia, Stanleytown, Plastic City, Zeelugt, Vergenoegen and Parika.

According to a release from the Regional Administrative Office, the visits by the team, headed by Regional Health Officer Dr. Ravi Persaud, is in keeping with the Regional Health Department’s efforts to avoid and minimize the chances of an outbreak of any disease.
According to Dr. Persaud, the release stated, anti-fungals, antibiotics, disinfecting agents and other items were distributed on Friday, and such visits will continue during the coming weeks.
Persons are being advised to keep away from flood waters and to clean and disinfect housing areas as soon as the water recedes.
The RHO has also given assurances that medical personnel will be at the Health Centres/Health Posts to treat patients.
