AS promised by Education Minister Shaik Baksh, the Ministry is offering free classes in English Language and Mathematics for students who would like to rewrite the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) exams in January 2011.
According to Baksh, this undertaking is in collaboration with the National Centre for Educational Resource Development (NCERD) and the University of Guyana’s Institute of Distance and Continuing Education (IDCE), among other agencies.
He noted that for those students with Grades One to Three in four subjects, and who did not manage to get Mathematics and English, the Ministry assistance is available.
The Minister added that centres will be opened across the country to assist in the preparation of students for the examinations.
When he disclosed the 2010 CSEC performance results, Baksh noted that it is necessary for students to resit the examination as soon as possible, because of the high possibility that they will not perform well if they wait longer.
In this context, the initiative to assist students to rewrite the examinations was introduced by the Ministry.
The tuition is being offered free of cost and students are required to enter and meet the cost for the January 2011 CSEC examination no later than September 24, 2010.
According to a statement from the Ministry, the objective of this initiative on the part of the Ministry of Education is to afford students the opportunity to secure passes (Grades One to Three) in at least six subjects at two sittings, including English A and Mathematics.
Classes in both subjects commence on Monday September 27, 2010, and will be conducted at various centres across the country. The locations will be made public shortly.
The statement said students who wish to attend these classes can uplift application forms from the office of the Institute of Distance and Continuing Education, Queen’s College Compound, any Adult Education Association office across the country, or a Department of Education office in any of the country’s ten administrative regions.
The application forms must be sent to The Director, NCERD, Battery Road, Kingston, through the Regional Education Officer/Principal Education Officer, and should be submitted no later than Friday September 17, 2010.
