ONTARIO, Canada – Sagicor HPC had another excellent performance as they trounced Bermuda by eight wickets in their T20 match yesterday afternoon when the Canadian Summer Cricket Festival continued. Playing at the Malton SCG in Mississauga, Ontario, the star performers were leg-spinner Kerron Cottoy, who bagged 3-14 from his four overs and opener Rajendra Chandrika, who made a classy, unbeaten half-century.
The Bermudans were restricted to just 93-8 off 20 overs on a good pitch as Cottoy dominated. All three wickets fell to catches on the off-side as he showed great control and forced the batsmen to make mistakes.
He was well backed up by the big fast bowlers Delorn Johnson and Jason Holder. Johnson, the six-foot-three-inch left-armer, got the ball to skid onto the batsmen and ended with 1-13 from his four overs. Holder, the six-foot-six-inch right-arm seamer caused problems as he got the ball to bounce and move both ways and finished with 1-14 from his four overs. For Bermuda, skipper David Hemp top-scored with 22, while Dion Stovell made 21.
After that Chandrika took over and made a stroke-filled half-century as the Sagicor HPC raced to 94-2 off 17.5 overs. Chandrika always looked in control as he maintained the good form he has displayed on tour so far, with a polished 51 not out off 58 balls, including three boundaries and a six.
He guided the innings and had the honour of hitting the winning runs as the Sagicor HPC beat Bermuda for the second time. He added 84 off 89 balls for the second wicket with wicketkeeper Devon Thomas, who cracked 33 from 43 balls to maintain the tempo.
The T20 segment of the tour continues today when Sagicor HPC face Canada at 11:00 h (10:00 h Jamaica Time).
