‘It will be a rough night for her’ – Tyson
FOLLOWING her unanimous decision loss to Pauline London in their first meeting two months ago, 42-year-old Debbie Tyson will be going all out for revenge when the two meet in this month’s Guyana Boxing Board of Control (GBBC)/Guyana Amateur Boxing Association (GABA) Pro Am card at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
“I am very confident and unlike the last time, she will be feeling the full brunt of Debbie Tyson’s two-fisted attack. In fact, it will be a rough night for her, I can guarantee that. There will be no let-ups and certainly no grace periods given to Pauline London, not from Debbie Tyson.”
Tyson, who is a mother of two felt that even though London won their first encounter, it was not by a majority decision and should have been a split decision instead, something she highlighted to president of the GBBC, Peter Abdool, during the contract signing ceremony earlier this week.
“I am not making excuses for the loss, because in all fairness, I cheated. When I said I cheated, I am not talking about drugs-related cheating, but in connection with my training. I told my coach (Lennox Daniels) that I did my miles in the morning, when I did not.
Nevertheless, I don’t think she won the fight unanimously. To my mind, even though she did win, it should have been by a split decision. But this time around, there will be no controversy surrounding who the winner will be, as I will be dominating her from one to four,” stated Tyson.
She continued, “I was rebounding from a battle with the flu which had me pinned down approximately two weeks before that fight. But I am in the pink of condition now and she talking about punishing me and leaving me bloodied, well let’s see who will be the one bloodied after Friday September 24.”
“After that loss, I have been in the gym every day, training with boxers in the calibre of Mandessa Moses. That’s a boxer and not a wrestler. I am trading punches with somebody who can punch me not push me off and the public will certainly see who the boss is when we meet and certainly it will not be Pauline London,” added Tyson.
Despite suffering back-to-back defeats in her short professional career, following a successful start where she knocked out fellow Guyanese Avon Scotland at the same venue, Tyson said she has something to prove to the boxing fraternity.
“I am going out there to box and to show that she can’t beat me. I know she can’t beat me. I cheated the last time around, with regards to my training wherein I lied to my coach and told him I did certain things when I did not.
Added to that, I was coming off an attack of the flu. But this time around, she had better be prepared for a war. In fact, she is more of a wrestler than a boxer and it will be different, as her face will be swollen at the end of this encounter.”
She added; “She (London) will be punished not only for her mouth, but the threats that she sent my way at the signing ceremony, wherein she said she will knock me out in two and leave me a bloodied mess. Anyone who knows me knows that I go hard at my opponent for the first two rounds.
In fact, if boxing was a two rounds affair, I would be a multiple world champion a day like today.
However, I am not fazed by her talks as persons know she does that a lot. Yes she won the last fight we had and I must give credit to her for that, but this time around, she will be facing a tried, tested and proven Debbie Tyson.”
Tyson promises to dictate the pace of the fight this time around, as London is more of a wrestler than a boxer, a comment that got London angry at the signing ceremony, which left a smile on Tyson’s face.
“That was my aim, to aggravate her and I know that once she is aggravated, she will be coming at me to prove a point. I do hope she comes to fight and fight to the best of her ability, as I plan to outbox her from the opening bell to the last.
She needs to be taught a lesson in the fine arts of boxing and if her tutor has to be Debbie Tyson, then I am willing to take on the job free of cost. I said it once and I will say it again, Pauline London cannot beat me and come Friday 24th September, I intend to show the boxing public why I say so.”
This will certainly be a scorcher. And judging from their first match showdown, boxing fans would definitely want to leave the comforts of their living room where they would have the liberty of viewing the fight live via NCN Channel 11, and rush to the CASH, pay their $500 and witness it in person.
Apart from the Tyson/London clash, Howard Eastman will face Kwesi Jones, Mark Austin will match gloves with Clive Atwell while Seon Hardy and Gavin Williams will both be looking to have an impressive start to their individual professional careers.
Four amateur bouts will precede the professional bouts in this eight edition of the GBBC/GABA Friday Nights ProAm Fights.
