MINISTER of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Mr Manniram Prashad yesterday met Guyana’s Amazon Conquerors before they departed for South Africa to compete in the much-anticipated Airtel Champions League.
Minister Prashad extended his ministry’s support and best of luck to the proud Guyana team, at the Princess Hotel in Providence, East Bank Demerara minutes before the group headed off to the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri.
The Guyana Tourism Authority also handed over a number of small and large Guyana flags and several tourism packages to the national cricketing team to help in promoting Destination Guyana while on their tour.
Cricket fans in South Africa will dance to the calypso beat as Guyana represents the Caribbean Islands this year at the Champions League Twenty20 (CLT20) with the hope of bringing home the CLT20 trophy.
The CLT20 tournament brings together the best cricketing clubs from across the world in the battle for Twenty20 honours.
The second edition of the Champions League features ten of the best domestic Twenty20 sides, bringing together some big names and several new faces.
The team from the ‘Land of Many Waters’ who play their first match on Sunday against India’s Royal Challengers Banaglore, will be captained by Guyana and West Indies middle order batsman Ramnaresh Sarwan.
