THE Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) Special Events Committee (SEC) last Saturday, honoured Devendra Bishoo, Jonathan Foo and Shemaine Campbell for recent outstanding performances for the national cricket team.
Bishoo was honoured for being named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the Caribbean T20 Tournament, Campbell for being the MVP of the Female West Indies cricket tournament and Foo for his eye-catching batting performance including his Man-of-the-Final award at the T20 tournament.
Bishoo was presented with a cricket ball gold medallion compliments of King’s Jewellery World, Foo a cricket ball gold medallion, compliments of Sanjay’s Jewellery Store of Sheriff Street, while Campbell received two special gifts compliments of the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club.
Chairman of the BCB/SEC Hilbert Foster hailed the trio of players as true sporting ambassadors for the Ancient County who, by their performances, have confirmed that the level of Berbice Cricket was at an all-time high.
Foster in a forceful and emotional address stated that Berbice cricket was successful due to sheer hard work, dedication and visionary leadership by the BCB and this has had positive impact on every cricketer in the Ancient County.
The long-serving cricket administrator called on Foo and Bishoo to continue their brilliant performances and most importantly to be true representatives of Berbice and Guyana during the Champion League in South Africa while Campbell was urged to use her MVP award as a stepping stone to greater success.
Acting president of the BCB, David Black, congratulated the players on what he called their historic personal achievements as to be the MVP of an entire cricket tournament and Man-of-the-Final in a pressured situation was no easy task.
Treasurer, Anil Beharry expressed his personal pride that Berbicians continue to dominate Guyana’s cricket and also at the fact that the hard work of the Board was producing the desired results.
The former Guyana Cricket Board assistant treasurer who is also a senior member of the Special Events Committee called on all young Berbice cricketers to emulate the trio and to strive to become the next MVP from the Ancient County.
