POLICE said they are investigating an armed robbery that occurred at about 19:30 hrs on Sunday  at Foulis, East Coast Demerara, during which businessman Naresh Puran was shot and injured in the abdomen.

Investigations revealed that Naresh Puran and his wife Christine were in the lower flat of their home when three men, one of whom was armed with a handgun, entered through an open doorway. The men held up Puran and his wife and he was shot to his abdomen.

The perpetrators then took away an undisclosed sum of cash and escaped in Naresh Puran’s motor vehicle PMM 4412. The vehicle was later found abandoned along the railway embankment at Coldingen, also on the East Coast Demerara.

Naresh Puran has been admitted a patient at a private hospital.
