Owners are careless with pit bulls

IN your publication GC 08/27/10, “pit bulls maul, disfigure plumber” is not the first incident and will not be the last if some owners choose to continue to promote the fighting instinct in the breed to keep them fierce. This method of training used is harsh and bodily that contribute to aggressive behaviour that as a result leads to vicious attacks on people if not restrained.
Dogs develop bad habits due to boredom, anxiety, lack of exercise, no interaction with owners and frustration all through neglect of care and concern by some owners.
Pit bulls are headstrong but are eager to learn, willing to please and be obedient to their owners like every other breed of dog if trained.

With the use of a strong leash owners should walk their pit to manage and control behaviour toward pedestrians and cyclists. By giving the leash a pull and tug when the dog seems aggressive and speaking firmly in training him good behaviour will show who the leader is. Training will produce an obedient dog knowing certain habits of how to ignore the good people and how to deal with intruders.

Some of Michael Vick’s pit bulls rescued from the clutches of torture and fighting rings have been rehabilitated and adopted in homes where families interact with their chum fear-free. Does that not tell us that pit bulls are not the problem but as a result of some peoples’ attitude to instill aggression in them makes this breed tied to a stigma of being dangerous. Sadly, the breed is condemned and sentence to be destroyed while the owners are guilty of an insensitive and uncaring ownership.

Pit bulls are suitable for owners who take the time with training the character of the breed while in puppy infancy to control the growing stages. For the most part, their temperament is controlled with guidance but only recommended for people who show them direction in good behaviour.

Some people undertake ownership of pit bulls without a clue of knowledge and to believing that only pit bulls can give them a safe haven of protection while disregarding the safety of passersby.
It is helpful if the GSPCA already have a brief TV public notice about these issues.
