US-based Guyanese born Imam, Husman Bacchus, will be in Guyana to join the Guyanese Muslim community in its Eid-ul-Fitr Celebrations (festival marking the end of Ramadan) this year.
Imam Bacchus will be visiting as guest of The Muslim Youth League of Guyana, The Guyana United Sadr Islamic Anjuman and the Anna Catherina Islamic Complex.
According to a statement from the MYO, Imam Bacchus is currently the Religious Director of the Islamic Center of Clermont, Florida in the United States and was born on the West Coast of Demerara, Guyana. He served as the Secretary of the Anna Catherina Islamic Complex (then the Anna Catherina Jamaat) from 1968 – 1975 when he migrated to London, England in pursuit of higher education. In 1979 he migrated to New York and has lived there since.
In New York he was an Executive Member of the prominent Masjid Abadin in the 1990’s and a founder member of the New York based organization I.S.L.A.M. (Institute for the Social Learning and Advancement of Muslims) and of New Crescent International, both of which are social-religious organizations. He also founded another Islamic Center in New York- Central Islamic Center of New York (CICNY) in 2000 and moved to Florida in 2004.
Imam Bacchus will be featured at several programmes throughout the country including the popular Eid Fest Programme at the Anna Catherina Islamic Complex on September 12.
