Residents of Lumidpau in Region 9 (Upper Takatu/Upper Essequibo) were the recipients of a contribution of stationery supplies last Friday by the ‘Flight of Hope’ charitable organisation.
According to Captain Orlando Charles, the journey into Lumidpau, located more that 500 kilometers from Georgetown, was a “smooth” one, despite the fact that this was his first trip to that part of the region.
Arriving at the village at 14:30 hrs, Charles recounted the warm welcome they received by deputy Toashao Evaristo Joseph and members of the community.
Captain Charles and Captain Praimnauth Mohanlall presented the stationery items to the children in the village while another amount was received by the Deputy Toashao to be distributed when school resumes in September.
Alluding to the future plans of the organisation, Charles indicated that they will travel to North Rupununi next weekend to distribute stationery to children there and to donate trophies for the winners of the events of the Rupununi Sports Day.
“We intend to increase our flights into remote areas across the country to be able to touch more communities.” Captain Charles said.
