Cornelia Ida abuse victim recuperating

Twenty-three-year old Trishwari Ramdhary, dealt nine stab wounds on Sunday by her spouse with whom she had broken off a relationship two years ago, has been transferred from the Intensive Care Unit of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
The mother of two, formerly of Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara, who was stabbed in her chest, rib, shoulders and knees, has since been transferred from the Intensive Care Unit of the GPHC and is now in the High Dependency Unit (HDU) of the same institution.

Even though Ramdhary is evidently still in pains, having been taken off the oxygen machine, she was yesterday breathing on her own, and ventured limited communication with relatives at her bedside.
Devika Gangaram, outside of whose home the incident took place, recounting the gruesome experience, yesterday thanked God for sparing the young woman’s life. “When this man (her estranged husband) start to stab she, I seh – like this boy smoke or what?”
Gangaram, who lives at Enterprise, East Coast Demerara recalled that last Saturday her son, Vikesh, turned up at her home with Trishwari and the two spent the night with the family.
The following day, Trishwari’s estranged husband, at whose hands she had suffered an abusive relationship for years, apparently heard that she was there and showed up, demanding to have a discussion with her.  With him, he carried a haversack, the woman recalled, later conceding that the knife was secluded in the sack.   After trying in vain to get her to return with him, he became loud and abusive.
At this stage Gangaram’s husband invited the estranged man into the yard to ‘thrash out their differences’ and asked him to lower his tone of voice.  But as tempers flared, Trishwari, who thought she’d had enough, flatly rejected him and ran up the stairs, but he hotly pursued her.  He was ordered off the stairs and out of the yard by Gangaram’s husband.
As the drama unfolded, the irate man, using a cellular phone, summoned his mother and sisters, who came along with the couple’s daughter.  On seeing the child, the mother advanced towards her to take her from her father.
This was probably the moment he was waiting for, and, whisking out the knife, charged towards Trishwari and began violently stabbing her.  Witnesses recalled that, as the man was stabbing his ex-wife, one of his relatives blurted out: “Kill she so and so!”  After stabbing the woman the assailant reportedly grabbed a bicycle, which was nearby, and rode away into the canefields.
Gangaram and his wife, along with their son Vikesh, hastened to the injured woman’s rescue and rushed her to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
