Cummings Lodge fisherman stabs wife, sets house on fire

A fisherman from 221 Cummings Lodge Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara, allegedly stabbed his wife and set their home on fire, yesterday.
According to a neighbor, the married couple,  Brian Latchman and his wife Nanda were having problems prior to the incident that occurred around 01:30 hrs yesterday.

She recalled overhearing the couple quarrelling on several occasions. “They fight all the time but he never gone to this extent,” she added.
The neighbor related that Latchman had gone to a wedding house earlier that day and when he returned he was drunk.
It seemed that they had a fight and Latchman stabbed Nanda in the back. Their 15-year-old son, Kevin, was at home at the time and tried unsuccessfully to restrain his father.
After Mr. Latchman stabbed his wife he ran out of the house and returned with a flammable substance, believed to be kerosene, and set the house on fire.
The fire service and the police responded promptly to a report, but by the time the fire-fighting unit arrived, the fire had been put out by neighbours.
The woman in a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital, suffering from a punctured lung, and her husband is in custody at the Sparendaam Police Station.
