2010 GFF Super 8 …

Alpha and Victoria Kings meet in final tonight
THE Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground will be a buzz of activity this evening as football-loving fans throng the venue to witness the final of the 2010 Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Super 8 tournament between Alpha ‘The Hammer’ United and Victoria Kings.

Alpha’s secured their spot in the final when they defeated Milerock of Linden 2-0 in the quarterfinal, followed by a 5-3 extra time victory over one of their arch rivals Sunburst Camptown in the semifinal.
No doubt, ‘The Hammer’ boys will start today’s final as strong favourites to walk away with the title against a team they have defeated every time they were matched together, which is, according to an executive of Kings, three times.
Players of the calibre of national captain Howard Lowe, Leon Grumble, Andrew Murray Jr, Anthony ‘Awo’ Abrams, Chris Camacho and national custodian Ronson Williams will lead the charge for Alpha.
On the other half of the field stands a team which was once the powerhouse of football on the East Coast of Demerara and certainly, football fans from that part of Guyana would be coming out in their numbers to support Victoria Kings.
Victoria Kings defeated Rosignol United and the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) 2-1 in their two matches to secure their date with Alpha this afternoon in a match they can use to avenge their hat-trick of losses to the nation’s top team.
The 35-year-old veteran Winston Pompey who is one of the founder members of the club, Pierre Joseph, Rashleigh Morrison and Dwayne Stephens will lead the Kings’ charge against the City-based Alpha United when the action kicks off at 20:00 h.
GDF and Sunburst Camptown will clash in the first match from 18:00 h in a battle for third place.
