The Ministry of Public Works and Communications has announced that the Linden-Lethem road will be back to normal for light traffic from today. A media release from the Ministry stated that the Corkwood Section of the road has already been re-opened to light and heavy traffic, and repairs to the Hunt Oil section will be completed for re-opening today.
The release explained that work on the Hunt Oil section of the road had been extended past the targeted deadline earlier this week, due to heavy torrential rainfall in the mountains located northwest of the Hunt Oil stretch of the roadway.
This had caused removal of the surface material and delays in repairs.
The release said that the Ministry is fully aware of the condition of the road and is doing everything in its capacity to restore the situation to normal.
The repairs to the Hunt Oil section are being done by Dalip Enterprises, a contracting firm from Lethem which was selected for the project through National Competitive Bidding (NCB).
The works involve the installation of RC Culverts and raising the road in critical areas and are being monitored by engineers from the Ministry of Public Works and Communications to ensure that they are being done in accordance with specifications.
The release also stated that the Ministry was up to yesterday collaborating with major stake holders to normalize the fuel situation in Lethem
