Ramdhani makes it to semi-finals of Under-11 mixed doubles
EIGHT-year-old Priyanna Ramdhani made it to the semifinals of the Under-11 mixed doubles competition, when action in the XIX Pan American junior badminton championships continued on Tuesday in Sanato Domingo, Dominican Republic.
Priyanna Ramdhani’s achievement ensured she was listed as the youngest player who ever reached so far in a Pan American Championships, as well as the lone spark on a dull day for Guyana at the championships. Having had a great first and second day at the championships, the Guyanese fell away badly on the third day, as both Priyanna and her brother Narayan Ramdhani lost their quarterfinal match-up in the singles competition.
Priyanna lost her quarterfinal encounter in the Girls’ Under-11 category to Christine Yu from the USA, as well as her quarterfinal doubles encounter in the same age group, where she teamed up with Amanda Yearwood from Barbados to face the American pair of Breanna Chi/Cindy Yuan.
She rebounded to win her Under-11 mixed doubles quarterfinal match-up, in which she teamed up with Jamaica’s Jordan Hydol Smith over F. De Lemos/Luanna Capuli of Brazil. .
It was a bitter day for Narayan who lost all his matches in the Boys’ Under-13 category, where he made it to the quarterfinal stage after breezing through the first two rounds, but despite suffering those defeats, the Ramdhani siblings were expected to be back in action yesterday.

Under-11 Girls’ Singles Quarter-Finals: Priyanna Ramdhani (GUY) lost to Christine Yu (USA) 12-21, 15-21.
Under-11 Girls’ Doubles Quarter-Finals: Priyanna Ramdhani (GUY)/Amanda Yearwood (BAR) lost to (USA) 12-21,5-21.
Under-11 Mixed Doubles Quarter-Finals: Priyanna Ramdhani (GUY)/Jordan Hydol Smith (JAM) defeated F. De Lemos/Luanna Capuli (BRA) 21-13,21-14. 
Under-13 Boys Singles Quarter-Finals: Narayan Ramdhani (GUY) lost to Jose Guevara Llatas (PERU) 21-15, 16-21, 14-21.
Under-13 Mixed Doubles Quarter-Finals: Narayan Ramdhani (GUY)/Ester Reynolds (JAM) lost to A. Do Nascimento/T. Da Silva (BRA) 11-21, 11-21.         
Under-15 Boys Doubles Round 2: Narayan Ramdhani (GUY)/Soren Optie (SUR) lost to second seed  Pow Hwa Chan/Aston Khor (USA) 21-7, 21-10. (Calvin Roberts)
