Two neighbours from Patrick Dam, a squatting area on the outskirts of New Amsterdam, appeared before Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo on Friday on charges of assaulting and wounding respectively.
Marcia Benn, 33, denied that on July 27 last, she assaulted Jenel Allen. She was placed on $10,000 bail.
Allen, 22, also pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on the same day she unlawfully and maliciously wounded her neighbor. She was granted $20,000 bail.
The spat occurred following a misunderstanding with the mother of the younger defendant and Benn, resulting in Allen intervening, arming herself with a beer bottle and allegedly inflicting a wound on Benn’s head.
Both women are unemployed. They are expected to return to the New Amsterdam Court on October 22.
