A 26-year-old father of five was spared imprisonment, but put on a one year bond when he pleaded guilty to a charge of threatening behaviour.
He made the confession before Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo in the New Amsterdam Court yesterday.
Sheldon Allen, of Rotterdam Village , East Bank Berbice, Police Inspector Satrohan Dayaram, prosecuting, informed the court that on August 4 last , Sheldon Allen, of Rotterdam Village, East Bank Berbice, held a cutlass to the neck of the mother of his children, after she reportedly left their common law home for a neighbour’s residence, following a domestic spat.
Dayaran said the defendant was annoyed with the woman’s removal and after threatening to kill her, dealt her several cuffs about her body, after which she reported the incident at Sisters Police Station.
