THE African Cultural and Educational Association (ACEA) will be holding its Damon’s Day Athletics Championships and Road Race tomorrow (the day designated as Damon’s Day). The day’s activities will commence at 06:00 h with a road race from Queenstown to Damon Square, Anna Regina. Speaking with Guyana Chronicle Sport earlier yesterday, member of ACEA Ms Chenille Bowen informed that the race will feature national and Caribbean 10 km female champion Alika Morgan along with other star runners out of Georgetown and the Essequibo Coast with notable runners coming from The New Opportunity Corps (NOC), Queenstown, Henrietta and Dartmouth Villages.
At 13:00 h the activities will move to the Anna Regina Community Centre ground where athletes from the Essequibo Coast will be competing in several events including track and cycling which will be the highlights of the afternoon proceedings.
Ms Bowen said that the cyclist will compete in the novice and sprint events while the athletes will compete in the various distance and sprint events.
First, second and third place winners will be awarded with medals and trophies, she added.
This will also bring the curtain down on Emancipation celebrations in Region 2.
The entrance fee for anyone desirous of entering the ground will be $200.
