PM, Ambassador Ishmael to represent Guyana at inaugurations

Prime Minister Sam Hinds will represent the Guyana Government at the August 12 inauguration of  President-elect of Suriname, Desi Bouterse, Cabinet Secretary, Dr Luncheon announced yesterday at a post-Cabinet briefing.
Bouterse was overwhelmingly elected president by Suriname’s parliament on July 19. He secured 36 votes from the 51-member lawmaking body.

At the country’s  May general elections, the president-elect  Mega Combination  won 23 seats  and defeated former President Ronald Venetiaan, but had needed at least 36 seats to name a president.
And, at the August 7 swearing-in of Colombia’s president-elect Juan Manuel Santos,  Dr Luncheon announced that the Guyana representative will be Ambassador Odeen Ishmael, who is this country’s envoy in Venezuela.
The in-coming Colombian President will take over from President Alvaro Uribe.
