E-Networks endorses inaugural President's/Jefford Track and Field Classic

LOCAL cable and internet provider E-Networks, yesterday aligned themselves with the first ever President’s/Jefford Track and Field Classic, held in recognition of one of Guyana’s top athletes, the late Elton Jefford. The company yesterday presented the organisers, the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) in conjunction with Elton’s son, Edison Jefford, with a cheque valued at $50 000 which will go to the fourth-placed club at the Championships.
AAG head Colin Boyce was high in praises for E-Network’s contribution to the inaugural event which he says will see some of the country’s top athletes on show.
Lisa Waddell, E-Networks Customer Service representative, expressed her company’s delight at being on board; stating that they are always happy to be a part of any event that helps to develop local athletes.
Meanwhile, the media present were informed that the competition which is set for the Mackenzie Sports Club Ground in Linden on August 29, could see the participation of Guyana’s 2006 Commonwealth Games 400m gold medallist Aliann Pompey.
It was mentioned by Edison Jefford that the athlete who is fresh off her silver medal placing at the just concluded Central American and Caribbean (CAC) games, has confirmed her availability to travel to Guyana and the logistics is being worked out with Caribbean Airlines to make her presence possible.
The same he says could be done for two-time Olympian and middle-distance athlete Marian Burnett and sprinter Adam Harris once time and flight permit.
He said that Lindeners and Guyanese as a whole would be able to see our top overseas athletes match spikes with the local breed, to create an unforgettable event.
