Persons allegedly involved in beating of Gibson, Stephens have been charged

THE Guyana Police Force wishes to respond to an article published in the Stabroek News on Tuesday, August 03, 2010, under the caption “Police should investigate beating by three-man gang on Essequibo Coast” The letter to the editor which was written by one Rudolph Gibson dealt with an incident that reportedly occurred on July 29, 2010, at Market Road, Supenaam, Essequibo, during which Arnold Gibson, 36 years, and Howard Stephens, 38 years, of Supenaam were allegedly beaten by a group of men. Rudolph Gibson also expressed concern that during the investigations by the police ‘justice might not be done’.
The Police Force wishes to state that investigations were conducted into the matter at the conclusion of which Reuben Wilson, 20 years; Orlando Osbourne, 16 years; and Clyde Williams, 20 years; all of Supenaam, Essequibo, were charged with unlawful wounding committed on Arnold Gibson.
They appeared before Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Anna Regina Magistrate Court yesterday where they pleaded ‘not guilty’ and were each placed on $50,000 bail to return to court on October 7, 2010, at Suddie.
In addition, Kenny Thomas, 16 years of Supenaam and Totaram Ramlochana, 19 years of Friendship, EBD, were charged with assault causing actual bodily harm committed on Howard Stephens.
They also appeared before Magistrate Faith McGusty today where they pleaded ‘not guilty’ and were placed on $20,000.00 cash bail each, to return to court on October 07, 2010, at Suddie.
