Niles takes Regan Rodrigues Memorial cycle road race

CARLTON Wheelers Cycle Club’s (CWCC) Junior Niles easily rode away with the sixth annual Reagan Rodrigues Memorial cycle road race yesterday morning, winning the 50 miles journey which pedaled off from the Wales Police Station to Bushy Park Parika and back to the Demerara Harbor Bridge for the finish in a time of 1h 51:19seconds. Jude Bentley, Albert Philander, Tony Simon, Eric Sankar and Mark Lewis completed the top six in the Open category behind Niles while Christopher Holder and Paul De Nobreiga were the top two finishers in the junior division.

In the female category, Berbice’s Marica Dick took the top podium finish from East Coast’s Naomi Singh, while another Berbician Gary Benjamin who is also the national road champion, took the veteran’s division from Virgil Jones and Linden Blackman respectively, with Monty Parris being the lone Over-60 finisher in the event.

In the Upright category, Kester Croal, Kunta McKenzie and Mario King occupied the top three positions in the race which was held to the memory of the late Reagan Rodrigues, a former president of CWCC. (Calvin Roberts)
