Consecutive prison sentences for illegal gun, ammunition

THIRTY-TWO-YEAR-OLD Delon Thompson, of Albert Street, Corriverton, Corentyne, Berbice, was sentenced to a total of two years imprisonment yesterday, for illegal gun and ammunition possession. Magistrate Krishendat Persaud inflicted the custodial penalty on the convict for having a 9mm pistol and 15 matching rounds, without being the holder of licences for them.
Police Sergeant Michael Grant, prosecuting at Springlands Court, Corentyne, led evidence for the conviction through the arresting officer, Corporal Welch and the ballistics expert, Sergeant Jackson.
The prisoner was riding a motor scooter on Number 79 Public Road, Corriverton, on June 9, 2005, when Police ranks saw him acting suspiciously and stopped him.
A search of Thompson’s person yielded the gun and the magazine with bullets in his pants waist, the Court was told.
Magistrate Persaud ordered that the separate sentences run consecutively.
