Fire strikes at Andaiye’s home

Firefighters fought to save the 109 Bonasika, Section K Campbellville residence of International Coordinator of Red Thread,  Andaiye, after the building went up in flames around 19:30 hours, last night. Speaking to the media, Andaiye said that the building housed eight persons. Living on the top flat of the building was Andaiye herself, her 93-year-old father Dr. Frank Williams, his nurse Ezelyn David, and her seven-year-old daughter Tamika.
On the bottom flat resided her friend and co-worker Joy Marcus and three teenaged children.  Andaiye said she was alerted to the fire by the children’s screams.
She stated that the extent of her loss was impossible to assess at the time. She said she lost thousands of books, two computers, priceless pictures, and other valuables.
The fire started in a downstairs bedroom, and then spread to the upper flat.
Four units of the Fire Service were on the scene and they managed to contain the blaze.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
