FOUR PERSONS are in police custody following the death of Kurt Mayers, of South Better Hope, East Coast Demerara early yesterday morning. Police say that at about 03:35 hours yesterday, Mahendra Persaud, 32, of Good Hope, East Coast Demerara reported that he had caught a man stealing from his house.
They responded, and upon arrival, found Mayers naked on the ground with his hands and feet bound, and marks of violence about his body.
A bag containing a quantity of jewellery, a cell phone and a torchlight Mahendra claimed was found in Mayers’ possession was handed over to the police, while Mayers was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), where he was admitted under guard but later succumbed while receiving medical treatment.
