GWI continuing school children education programme in August

GUYANA Water Inc. (GWI) has announced that it will continue its ongoing school education programme, ‘H2O Kidz N Action’ during the August holidays. “It is imperative that we continue our educational thrust, despite the fact that schools are closed,” Public Relations Officer, Mr. Timothy Austin said.
He said they will achieve the objective by targeting Summer school sessions, youth clubs and even vacation bible schools.
Austin said the aim is to educate GWI customers receiving treated supplies about the need to avoid unnecessary consumption and wastage.
The goal is to create a customer base that is fully aware of the global water crisis, as well as the potential for a shortage in Guyana during the dry season, he said.
He recalled that, earlier this year, water levels dipped dangerously low, necessitating GWI to increase its education about awareness and conservation.
Austin said participants, this August, will be selected from Lima (Essequibo coast); Cotton Tree (West Coast Berbice); Queenstown, New Amsterdam; South, North and Central Ruimveldt (Georgetown) and Vergenoegen (East Bank Essequibo).
“These areas are key areas, because GWI is, currently, establishing water treatment plants in the communities. These plants will not serve the purpose for which they are intended if customers continue to use more water than they require or engage in heavy wastage,” he explained.
The “H2O” Kidz “n” Action” Programme is a permanent feature of GWI’s education and awareness function.  The programme involves workshops on water conservation, water and the body and hydrological cycle.  It is facilitated by the Company’s Public Relations Department.
